Your First Visit
During your first appointment at Lindsey Dental Group, we do our best to ensure you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have, and help you complete your new patient information forms. We also encourage our patients to download and complete their new patient forms from the comfort of home at their convenience. Once patients are checked in, we complete diagnostic x-rays that are used to give our team a complete understanding of their smile structures. Our state-of-the-art digital x-rays are immediately viewable on chairside monitors, can be enhanced for improved patient comprehension, and are easily shared with patients, insurance providers, and specialists whenever necessary. Next, one our dentists will carefully evaluate patients’ smile looking for early warning signs of common oral health concerns including tooth decay, gum disease, bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and oral cancer. Finally, patients meet one on one with the dentist for an oral health consultation during which we’re happy to answer questions and make treatment recommendations in partnership with patients.
Hygiene & Cleanings
Another part of patients’ six month checkups is a thorough professional teeth cleaning. Our skilled hygienists carefully remove plaque and tartar from every surface of teeth reducing the risk for tooth decay and gum disease. Our hygienists are also happy to answer your at-home hygiene questions, make product recommendations, and demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques. We are dedicated to making patients partners in their oral health care, and that starts with education to help patients keep their smiles healthy at home. Our hygienists may also diagnose periodontal (gum) disease in earlier stages, and provide more advanced cleanings to remove plaque and tartar buildup below the gum line. Those patients who suffer from gum disease may need to visit our office more frequently in order to preserve oral health and prevent the many ill effects of periodontal disease.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are possibly the easiest way to protect teeth from potential decay. A thin coat of clear, plastic is painted over the surface of teeth sealing out bacteria and protecting smiles from decay. Sealants can be quickly placed as part of a dental checkup, and with proper care, sealants remain in place protecting teeth for up to ten years. In most cases, sealants are recommended for younger patients who are still developing their oral hygiene skills, but patients of any age who need added protection from decay benefit from dental sealants.
Nightguards for Bruxism
Many patients unconsciously grind and clench their teeth especially during sleep. This habit, known as bruxism, may seem harmless, but in actuality, a number of oral health concerns can arise as a result of teeth grinding including dental wear, chips, and cracks. Our team is happy to custom craft nightguards that create a barrier between teeth protecting them from potential damage. These comfortable mouthguards allow patients to speak, drink, and breathe unimpeded through the night.
Athletic Sportsguards
Protecting patients’ smiles as they participate in activities they enjoy is important to our team. That’s why we encourage patients to ask about our custom crafted sportsguards to keep their smiles safe as they play all their favorite sports. Store bought varieties are available, but many patients find these guards too bulky to wear comfortably. Wear your custom Sportsguard during athletic competition that may bring patients’ smiles into contact with other players, hard surfaces, or sports equipment, sportsguards provide a protective barrier keeping teeth and gums intact.
